I just had a bbq and once we had run out of my challenger session brew I decided to crack open a couple of my bitter red devil and wow the citrus hit from the NZ cascade was amazing, ive never tasted anything like it. The only 2 things I was dissapointed with it was that my challenger brew from the polypin was completly flat (which wont matter when I get my beer engine of jim Very Happy) and my bitter red devil was pretty much lager colour with 400g of carared so next time im defintly adding abit of crystal or chocolate to the brew to help bring out the redness.

my brew tomorrow is going to be a test for my red beer.

I'm brewing with munich and a bit of choc and black(50g of each)

It wont have a strong colour but should just add a bit of biscuityness (is that a real word)

I really like the C hops (Challenger, Cascade and Centenniel)

a bit of chocolate would help alot with the colour my first runnings where a pretty red colour so I think you just need to add something to bring out the colour.

Ive done a couple of brews looking for a nice red colour. Ive found when using Carared add a pinch, and I mean a pinch of Black Malt (2 Tbs) at the most brings out a nice ruby colour.

Maris Otter 3600g
Amber Malt 850g
Carared Malt 350g
Black Malt 30g

A nice "red" colour.
