I have put together a Geordie Scottish export with suger and a 450g tin of black treacle. (Experimentation is probably the start of the slippery slope to AG brewing Shocked ). Not sure how much effect the black treacle will have on the brew or what to expect when it is ready for drinking. If anybody has done something similar then any advice on what to expect will be most welcome. Smile

it will impart some flavour on the beer. you'll end up with a drker beer with some of the dark treacle taste coming through

and youre right, it is the slipper slope to the dark side

Did a Muntons Nelsons Revenge with 450gms of black treacle and 300gms of dark spray malt, four weeks ago.I also reduced the water content by four pints. Its still very cloudy, its got a sort of liquorice taste and seems very strong in the alcohol department. Very Happy
I think its going to take at least another four weeks to clear.

Brewing St Peters Ruby.

Conditioning Woodfordes Wherry, Muntons Smuggler.

Drinking Whoodfordes Wherry, Nelsons revenge.

After putting this concoction together I went away for 2 weeks to come back to a reading of 1006 from 1048 (5.7%) Shocked . Bottled it today and had a small sample for QC purposes. First impresions was of a nice beer that is not to bitter but with a very nice flavour. Hopefully after 6/8 weeks I should be in for a cracking pint of beer. Very Happy Will let you know how it turns out.

Muntons dont do Nelsons Revenge, that is a Woodfordes Kit. I dont know what you will end up with, as you should not need to add anything to a good kit. It will be strong, as you added a lot of extra fermentables to an already balanced kit.
